Fast, Observed Oral Fluid Drug Testing
Oral fluid drug testing simplifies specimen collection because there is no urine specimen or restroom collection process. The person being tested rubs the inside of the cheeks to help stimulate saliva production and then positions the collection device under the tongue.
Only a small amount of oral fluid is required to activate the test, and results are available in approximately 5 minutes.
Because saliva collection can take place in view of the test administrator, oral fluid testing provides an inherently observed collection process. This can help reduce concerns about specimen substitution and adulteration while eliminating the need for a same-gender observer associated with directly observed urine collections.
How to Read Orawell Oral Fluid Drug Test Results
The Orawell 12 Panel provides qualitative preliminary drug screening results.
A colored line in the control (C) region indicates that the test has performed properly. If the control line does not appear, the test is invalid and a new device should be used.
For each drug panel:
- Presumptive Negative: A colored line appears in both the control region and the applicable test region. The intensity of the test line may vary.
- Presumptive Positive: The control line appears, but no colored line appears in the applicable drug test region.
- Invalid: The required control line does not appear.
A presumptive positive result indicates the possible presence of the applicable drug or metabolite at or above the test’s cutoff concentration. The test does not determine impairment or measure intoxication. The manufacturer’s product insert describes the device as providing qualitative preliminary results.

These tests are forensic use only. They are designed as a qualitative screening test and therefore cannot be sent to a laboratory for confirmation testing.
