Online DOT Specimen Collector Training: DOT Regulations Plus Mock Collections
This online DOT Specimen Collector Training course covers the DOT rules and regulations (49 CFR, Part 40) for professional specimen collections for drug testing and includes the required 5 mock specimen collections. At the end of this online course you will test on your knowledge of the DOT rules and regulations, 49 CFR Part 40, and complete the required 5 mock collections for full DOT specimen collector certification.
Once you complete the online training covering 49 CFR Part 40, you will receive an email where you will select and sign up for one of our available WebEx online training sessions. It is during the WebEx portion of our training you will complete your required 5 mock specimen collections in the presence of our certified instructor.

- 8, Federal Custody and Control Forms (use your own or purchase our kits)
- 6, DOT approved split specimen collection kits (use your own or purchase our kits)
- Warm water (to serve as the specimen)
- A donor or subject (the DOT requires you perform mock tests on a live subject)
- Disposable gloves

Time spent during the regulations training and the mock collections will vary depending upon an individual’s knowledge and experience. Regulations training typically takes 1-2 hours and the mock sessions will take 2-3 hours online.

If that individual holds a valid certificate and has been performing drug tests for a year or more, they are qualified to oversee your mocks. They would need to know which mocks the DOT requires you to perform and how to document your completion. We offer a regulations only course that covers DOT regulations. If you took this class you would receive a certificate that you completed regulations training only. The person overseeing your mocks would have to issue a second certificate that you completed your mocks.

Typically people use the supplies that are already at their facility. If you are a new start-up company, you can get the Custody and Control Forms (CCFs) and the split specimen kits for free when you sign-up with the lab you will be using to test the samples you send in. Abbot Labs, LabCorp are just a couple of labs that give your your supplies for free. We can send you CCFs and split specimen kits but will need to charge shipping for those supplies.

Once we process the order, the student information is provided to our training coordinator who will create your student account in our learning management system. Once she creates your student account and assigns the proper online course, you will receive an email with instruction on how to log into your assigned course. The time it takes to process orders and clear credit cards and assign courses at most can take up to couple of hours. If you do not see a course invitation email in your inbox or spam folder (also check your spam folder to see if your company’s IT setting sent it there), contact one of our representatives at 800.227.9890. It depends on how familiar you already are with DOT testing. Beginners may take 3-4 hours to go through and test out on the regulations part of the training. Seasoned DOT testers may take only 2 hours to go through the regulations. Once you test out on the regulations you sign up for an available mock session. This session is where we oversee your 5 mock specimen collections. Again, beginners may take 2 -3 hours to complete their mocks, while seasoned collectors can get through in 1-2 hours.
