Every electronic instrument needs to be checked for accuracy periodically, and the Equilibrator provides a low-cost way to do this. The Equilibrator can also be used to calibrate a breath test device. Although the Equilibrator does not provide evidential quality results, it is appropriate for use with very inexpensive non-evidential alcohol testing devices that cost from $50 to $200. The Equilibrator is not appropriate for evidential breath testing programs
To use the Equilibrator, the premixed Equilibrator solution is poured into the container. The temperature of the solution is noted with the thermometer, and the look-up table is consulted to determine the expected alcohol value at that temperature
