There is no alcohol in albuterol inhalers, so using an inhaler should not give a positive result a breath alcohol test. Even if there was a cross reaction to something in the inhaler, the contamination of the mouth from a spray would be gone in five minutes or less. For example, Binaca mouthwash spray, which does contain a significant amount of alcohol, does not produce a positive result after five minutes. So, even though we don’t believe there is anything in albuterol inhalers that will create a positive breath alcohol test, even if there was something in an inhaler that might be detected with a breath alcohol test, the contamination of the mouth would be very temporary – no more than five minutes. Any positive test after five minutes of using an albuterol inhaler could not be attributed to the inhaler.
