Who may perform a DOT alcohol test?
DOT regulations require a DOT alcohol test be performed by a person certified as either a Screening Test Technician (STT) or a Breath Alcohol Technician (BAT). Both certifications require the technician to be knowledgeable about the DOT regulations and the procedures for conducting an alcohol test, and proficient in the use of an alcohol testing device. An STT must be certified to use an alcohol screening device (ASD), while a BAT must be certified in the use of an evidential breath tester (EBT).
