DOT Drug and Alcohol Testing Round Table Discussions

It is common to spend time discussing common and not so common DOT drug and alcohol testing conundrums during our drug and alcohol testing training. In our training classes, we encourage students to put forth their testing questions, encounters or scenarios as a means of initiating quality and vibrant group discussions. In our opinion, this is an important part of training and provides students with great benefits in recalling and sharing their experiences with one another. But why should this benefit only come around every 5 years during the required refresher training? After all, training is a process…not a single event.

This in mind, and with the purpose of keeping drug and alcohol testing professionals connected one with another, AlcoPro will be conducting periodic “DOT Round Table Discussions”. Starting in March, these live dialogues will be conducted online via WebEx. View our Events Calendar for a listing of discussion topics, dates and times. Each DOT Round Table Discussion will cover a specific and timely topic. Topics will be around current events regarding drug and alcohol testing, updates implemented by the Department of Transportation and open forums regarding interpretations of DOT rules and regulations outlined in 49 CFR Part 40. These forums are FREE of charge. Openings are limited to 10 participants per session so that everyone has a chance to weigh in on the topic.

As part of our training goals, we seek to inform employers, technicians and collectors of their individual testing responsibilities, assist in maintaining compliance of DOT regulations and provide our customers with a unique opportunity to stay current with the drug and alcohol testing procedures and developments. For example: Are you aware that DOT published a decision on 1/27/16 to add another service agent to the Public Interest Exclusion (PIE) list? Read more about the recent PIE.

During our first DOT Round Table in March, we will poll attendees on a list of topics for upcoming discussions. Collecting attendee feedback ensures we cover the areas of interest as perceived by those “in the field” of drug and alcohol testing. We understand that a pro-active workplace creates an environment of confidence for all personnel involved in our field.

Our hope is that these discussions allow participants to contribute strategies implemented within their own facilities to aid others who may encounter the same issue. As we already know, the Department of Transportation has many gray areas in the 49 CFR Part 40 Regulations. We aspire to provide some clarity and help customers develop “Best Practice” techniques for handling common and unique collection situations.
Seating is limited to only 10 students per session so sign up today. Web cameras are recommended but not required.

We hope to see you soon.
